A good executive must know his limitations. When I heard of
second salary components, restructuring compensation in line with
local practice to reduce the weight of pensionable income, and
the need to develop good personnel and compensation systems which
employees view as legitimate, yet allow the company to pay by
performance, I called up the expert.
Mr. Nevins made a turn key operation of it, running an initial
seminar in fluent Japanese before all our staff, and then implementing
the new program in a meeting with each individual employee. When
additional months of bonus were "carved-out", monthly
take home pay was actually drastically reduced - but we pulled
it off without a hitch.
