I was with Dataquest until January 1984, and started up their
operation in Japan. I had watched Tom Nevins over the years and
attended seminars sponsoring him as a speaker. When we needed
Rules of Employment, our compensation and retirement system, I
knew where to go.
It's important for a foreign firm to get off on the right foot,
and for the expatriate manager to understand and have ultimate
control over payroll and personnel related costs, which may represent
sixty percent or more of operating expenses. Nevins knows what
he's talking about in both languages (English and Japanese) and
has credibility from both sides. He's a good man to have in between,
from the start.
